I'm contemplating change a company code, but it's been a while and I need a refresher. If I use the rename to change a code from IFG to IFM, does it change all of the policy records too, or do they need to updated individually?

Hi Jim!  The rename utility will get them at the policy (and other client level areas) too.

Yup, the only thing it won't touch would be if you had the prospect company code of IFG where its a separate list. Policies, transactions, history, claims, memos and everything else will be changed so it was like IFG never existed.

Thanks gentlemen! I thought that was the case, but it's been a while and didn't want to create yet another crappy task list item that needs cleanup work.

Don't you have to rename the GL manually? I know there is a check mark for that but seems like I remember it didn't work?

Also, just an FYI, we renamed a number of company codes when we were on TAM and there was one that the utility ran for over 12 hours to complete!

It can take a while, given how many places you'll see a company code that you sometimes don't think about (like activities and memos) plus every transaction with them over the years.

Generally speaking, any rename done under rename codes, provided it finishes without errors, will remove all traces of the former code in the system and it will only exist under the new code. It's something I cannot stress enough given there are people who will rename to combine codes, but didn't want to touch old items so their history is intact (like with producer codes).

I appreciate your processing time warning, George - good to know. However, my databases are much smaller than yours, so for me that shouldn't be an issue.

wanted to mention one thing.  If you have sub-producer codes set up in your company, you'll need to delete them from one of the companies or you'll receive errors about duplicate codes. Pretty sure they need to be deleted from the one that's going away.
This was a mini nightmare for me.
