I've just been upgraded to Office 2007.  I'm getting strange messages when I "Applied/Save & Exit"  Is this still absolutely necessary?  TAM 11.1 build 4.

Yes, there really is a Kalamazoo!

Hi, Heather.  I'm pretty sure that it IS necessary since TAM does not save Word files as .DOC or .DOCX files, which are the native file formats for Word, but rather as .RTF files or something like that.  Conan from Applied posted on the forums that he was seeing several agencies have issues after installing recent Word updates.  My guess is that you may be a victim of that.

When we upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2010 - I set up the "ribbon" tab for TAM with included the Save and Exit command.  Doesn't Office 2007 have the ribbon also?  Maybe that would resolve the issue.

Here I thought TAM Save and Exit was becoming Legends & Lore!  I've polled here in the office and users are having no problems receiving the correct prompts when just "x"ing out of the document.  Office 2007 & 2010 are used here.   Are we missing anything?

I wanted the access to the client data on the short cut - so I just put everything I wanted in the TAB on the ribbon - where do you get client data when  you are in a doc in Office 2010 (I have it in the TAM Tab on the ribbon - but if we didn't have that tab where would you get it to put info in a doc?)

This is what my "ribbon" looks like.  How to I customize?  The only thing I found so far is how to add to the "quick access" bar.

I used instructions from here that were posted on how to do it.

While IN TAM on a blank document:
On the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) rt click & select Customize Ribbon.
Under CHOOSE COMMANDS FROM - select MACROS (you can see TAM macros)
Create New Tab and then add the items you want, rename and give them an icon

(I believe the save & exit is the macro AutoClose)

I don't have the option to customize the ribbon, only the quick access toolbar.  It won't let me do anything to the ribbon.   >:(

Mine is on the Quick Access Bar - works there the same.

Miss a day off, miss a lot round here.

Though I cannot fully confirm since I havent caught it in the act, I believe any case where someone has saved over the template for a formletter is due to closing out of the letter incorrectly (aka, not using save & exit).

I'm a bit interested in what the strange messages that were mentioned in the original post since they would likely shed some light on what is happening here.

We do get that occasionally when someone saves over the template. I keep a copy of all our RTF templates just in case...

Me and TAM used to have a thing but we've split amicably. She got the kids, I got the Camaro and the maid.

It was Office 2007 SP3.  We went back down to SP2 and now the problem is gone!

Below is what was happening.

Thank you all for your input!

Applied Save & Exit is still alive and well in Epic, so it's still alive and well.

I actually had a template corrupted recently and I totally blamed it on the user not using Applied/ Save & Exit. It the first time I'd ever seen it. Instead of being the blank formletter I'd set up under documents it would pull the entire letter he had typed.
