I had a drive in the our SBS 2003 fail last weekend.  I had an extra drive on the shelf and once installed it took the place of the bad drive in the RAID array just like it was supposed to.

This server really should be replaced but until that happens I need to find more replacement drives to have in-house, just in case.  Thought I had found a source but now that the drives are in hand the model # is close but not exactly what I'm replacing.  How can I test if these drives will work?

Old drive Model: Fujitsu MBA3147NC Part: CA06775-B40300LD
New drive Model: Fujitsu MBA314RNC Part: CA06708-B21900WL

I was thinking:

  • Perform full backup.
  • Pull a drive
  • Insert a new drive and see if the array rebuilds itself

Any thoughts/comments before I try this?
