Our IT guy's response was "I don't work in Word".  I need to format some numbers in a document I'm working on for proposals, and can't get the Alt/F9 to do anything to toggle fields on or off.

Any other methods anyone knows of to format the numbers, or what might be causing the Alt/F9 to not work?  All other shortcut keys seem to work.

Do you definitely have some fields to toggle? Can't see why it wouldn't work if other shortcuts do, unless there's nothing for it to work on.

Me and TAM used to have a thing but we've split amicably. She got the kids, I got the Camaro and the maid.

Can't you get the same thing with a right click of a field?  Have you tried show/hide?

That did it Mark.  Thanks.  Now, following the KB instructions for formatting the number, I'm still getting syntax error, and haven't figured out how to get the field into it.  Anyone have the old instructions for the full field format?

Anyone still have the handouts from various sessions that give the details on formatting (especially numbers) of fields in a TAM/Word document, manually?  And which they'd be willing to share?  Due to changes in employers over the years, I can't find mine.

Thanks.

Okay, probably being really dumb.  Need to at least get the field inserted into the document so I can then type in the things I need.  At least using the TAM/Word interface (proposal), every time I try, I only get "syntax error" and no matter what I try, right clicking, etc. - unable to get into the field to fix it.

Is there a way the TAM variable should be entered to the "Field" part in the field dialog box?  I haven't been successful with that yet.

Oh for the old days of just "insert a field, then type what you need between the markers"!

Is it safe to assume that you are using the TAM utilities to get to the Word interface to set up the new form letter or whatever it is that you are setting up?  Also, is the TAM/Word add-in installed and operational?  The last one takes care of the field insertions.  They have to be selected through the add-in feature (or you can create shortcuts for the individual macros also).  I am using Word 2007 with TAM 9.4.

Yup - using Word 2007, with wrdvwr, and TAM 10.8
Problem I'm having is that I haven't figured out how to possibly insert a blank field to which I can add what I need.  The KB instructions for formatting a number aren't working, I can't get to the field as it only gives the error message and I can't get into that even with Alt/F9.

Okay, feeling a bit like an idiot here this morning.  While waiting for Applied Support, noticed a key on my keyboard called "F Lock" (to the right of the F12 key, have a MS split keyboard).  Pressed it again - voila!

(Maybe the key should be renamed, something rather obsene!)

I don't have one of those.  Maybe that has prevented a lot of headaches here.
