Progressive download setup rights

What directories and rights does a user need to have to be able to run the Progressive download schedule?

It works fine on the machine logged in as administrator, but as user it does not want to complete.  I gave the user full rights to c:\programfiles\progressive_stuff (don't recall the exact path at this moment), but it still does not want to complete.  Are there any other temp files it makes?  The user has complete access to the TAM drive and the TAM interface has been set up correctly.  I don't have much good to say about this piece of Progressive.  We had it turned off for good reasons, but decided that it would be helpful if we enabled it again.

Just a guess, but check the user's profile for any INI files that may save settings or status of the last or next download.

Good question.  I had fits making this work in Windows 7.  It wants to start as a service, so when you try to get into the program that controls the timing of when the download occurs, it says it's already running and won't let you change anything.  I disabled the service and now run it on my bookkeeper's system as a Scheduled Task through Windows.

I don't get it.  The user has all rights to the progressive folder on C: and can use everything TAM related in APPS.  I created and edited some files and folders in the Progressive folder just to verify that access right.  I don't know what else to do.

Hans - I was waiting for a Progressive tech to get back to me. They're usually pretty quick in responding and I don't know what's taking them so long.
But in the meantime, have you looked at the permissions for the downloader in the registry? It's a shot in the dark until the tech gets back to me.

The downloader is under there. I can't tell you what it should be b/c the computer I run it on has local admin rights.
I'll let you know when a tech gets back to me.

Switch to downloading through IVANS. There's a cost, about $17 monthly for us, but I switched back when they changed the download program and I was having issues. Also don't have to worry about whether the only 1 computer its installed on is running or not. Don't regret the expense a bit and it only took 1-2 days to get it them coming in again.

Good call, Alice.  I had an anti-virus product that had to have read/write permissions for its registry key or it wouldn't update.  I'm wondering if it stores the status information in the registry.  There's no harm in giving that one registry key read/write permissions.  I doubt any malware wants to attack the progressive registry entries!

How does one give those rights to a single entry?  I have not done that.  Open with regedit, find the entry and then right click or something?

Yes.  Then in the right click dialogue, choose permissions and give full control.

Finally was able to grab the error message I currently get.

Did give full rights to the progressive key.

Anyway - spoke to a tech. Hans - not knowing how you were logged in to the computer when the downloader was installed, the tech said that you must have local admin rights to install it. And even though the option for "everyone" during the install is broken, you should be able to put the icon in the All User/desktop folder and have it work. So maybe uninstall it, call the download dept and have a tech walk you through it since it requires a password they create that you get from their site. Then while you still have the tech on the phone, have the user log in and try it.
I always get a tech on the phone from the download department and they are great. 1-800-763-6002  Option #2. You'll need to give them an agent code for identification.
