We've never used this utility, does it allow a date range to be chosen, or does it archive every closed activity over 6 months old?

Me and TAM used to have a thing but we've split amicably. She got the kids, I got the Camaro and the maid.

It's been years since we've done this, but I remember it giving you a date option.  You don't really "lose" those activities.  What happens is it prints all of the activities that it removes from the database to a archive "report" for lack of a better term.  You cannot search or report on those activities anymore because they're gone from the database, but if you click on the "archive" option under activities, they can be viewed in their entirety in a "list" type of format.

Either archive or purge works from the date the activity was closed.
We stopped using archive when the space issue went away, and went to purge.
We purge according to our retention and destruction policy - 7 years.
Be aware some activities that have the attachment indicator (the asterisk) have to be done individually, even if the attachment is gone.
If you have many years in the data file, it does speed some things up.
If you don't have retention policy, check with your insurance department for how long you must keep things.

I'd never go less than 5 years; if you write much construction, consider 10; if you do architects and engineers - those never go away.

Thanks for the piointers. The Help file says to run the Tfile Synch utility first, do you do that? (i.e. is it essential? Had issues with it before ).

We ran it, didn't have problem (except you can't trust the "status of progress" bar on the PC screen).  I always ran purges when no one was on system.
