Title: Deleting Old Policy Types
Post by: Jill Liebler-Groom on May 24, 2012, 09:46:01 AM
I have a bunch of old policy types that we no longer use (and haven't used for at least 5 years).  I want to delete them from TAM because once in a blue moon someone will use one by mistake plus I just want to get them out of the list of policy types.

Pros - cons?  Any reason why I shouldn't delete them?

They'll stay in your records and you can report on them in future by using Extra Criteria Policy.type="XXXX" where XXXX is the old code. We've deleted some and not had any big problems.

If they have an app attached, deleting the type can cause problems trying to find the app when you want to move to history, or delete (as part of file cleanup).  I stopped deleting them until I knew they were no longer used in existing records (retention period 7 years).  Instead, I changed the name of the type to something like "USE XXXX-Not valid".

Thanks for the info - I'm going to delete and keep the notes from Andrew on how to run reports if we need the information.  Enjoy your long holiday weekend!!
