Title: Microsoft Word v. Dana's home computer
Post by: brinkerdana on January 28, 2011, 04:44:26 PM
For some reason, every time I try to use Word, I need to do a search to find the program.  When I open Microsoft Office, everything is there except Word.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?  Why it's happening?

It's Office 2003.

Thanks!

Create a short cut to winword.exe and your good..  Just type winword in the run line that will launch it too.  :)

I think from Control Panel, you can do the Add/Remove routine and select 'Repair' - that might also help.

And if you run any non-Microsoft cleanup programs like CCleaner or others, they will often remove temp files that MS Office uses when it starts up.  I have found that Office uses temp files that begin with a tilde "~" in the file name.  If you remove these files, trying to open Word will cause a short reinstallation routine to run.  It takes about 5 seconds to run, but it will give you a hear attack the first time it happens.
