Title: Split View?
Post by: Lance Bateman on January 20, 2011, 08:36:08 PM
I'm trying to work with the person currently handling systems, and the question has come up.  I've used split view before, installed on remote PCs, but in the home office we had CITRIX, did not need a Terminal Server version of split view.

The company I'm at now does not have CITRIX, they rely on Terminal Services.  If you go split view, do you need the server version AND the remote PC version installed, or just the one?

Thanks.

I just installed Splitview awhile ago and I only needed to put it on the server.  You do need to create a new remote desktop connection mstsc /span, but once you save it that is it.  I had my users keep there one monitor connection as well jsut in case.  The users love it!

I seem to recall that current version of TS support dual monitors, though I don't think you get the handy "macro" buttons to help you manage windows.

We just installed on our Terminal Servers and you do get the little buttons to move the windows between screens.

George, you installed split view, or the update on RTS (not split view)?

Well I didn't intall it, as my role here is almost entirely TAM support. But our systems administrator installed Split View on the Terminal Servers. Nothing had to be installed on the clients, just edit RDP to span.  I don't even know what the update on RTS is?  :)

The software is one in the same.  During installation, it will ask you if you're installing on a Terminal Server.  Choose that option, and you don't need anything for the client.  The software adds a script to the TS logon script that starts SplitView for each user.

If you're using Wyse terminals, they have a piece of software called TCX.  It's free, but we've run into quite a few problems lately, especially on Server 2008.

Also:  The SplitView Terminal Server license is in the neighborhood of $729, retail.  This licenses all users (unlimited number) on one Terminal Server.

If you need a license, PM me.  I can get a discount.

Yep!  What we paid and as you said unlimited for terminal server users.  You had to disappear on me when I was buying.   ;)

We've been using SplitView on our TS for years and, while I haven't tried any alternatives, I've been very happy with Splitview.

Doh!  I try to keep my disappearing acts to a minimum.
