Title: Terminal Server & PCs
Post by: Heather Reetz on December 11, 2017, 09:15:40 AM
Does anyone use scaled down PCs in lieu of thin clients to access a terminal server?  Have you found some reliable machines that are cost effective?

Is this in relation to your printer issue? I'd stick with thin clients if thats what you have...less licensing and update hassles to deal with!

Yes.  I was wondering if PCs would play nicer with local printers.  We have just a few PCs.  True, less hassle with licensing and updating.  Just have to weigh the pros and cons.

If its truely terminal server only then you could potentially run anything. Depending on your environment maybe even something like a docked tablet/chromebook?

All of our users work on the TS, local and remote users. We buy Dell refurbs for the office for a couple hundred dollars each and they work great. Local printers are installed on the server and remote users print with Uniprint which we've used for years and is pretty reliable and low maintenance.
