Title: Multifunction device access
Post by: Hans Manhave on November 12, 2018, 05:42:59 PM
I have an older multifunction device I need to access.  Changing settings etc.  It uses JAVA for that but I cannot access it because of the now mandatory security of Windows/Java.

Is there anyway to temporarily turn off JAVA security and let me do what I need to do?  See attached lovely message.

you could try and add the exception to the list by editing the file manually instead of through the Java control panel.

I've never tried this, but wonder if it might bypass the check.

Marks idea should work, but its still a PITA. You can still download older versions of Java...it may just be a thing to take an old computer (or even your current one), temporarily install an old copy to do what you need to do, then immediately pull it when you're done.

Adding the name "http:// ... configureLogin.jar" was accomplished but didn't change the situation.  I also tried adding the name as listed after "Name:" in the message which was not accepted.  So I added it as "http://192.168.0.235/com.efi.apps.websetup.ConfigureLogin.jar" which was added, but didn't change anything either.

I found lists of Java versions but not ones I could install.

So, I think I'll see what old laptop might be laying around waiting to do just this one task in its remaining life.  :)

Hans,

Just try adding http://192.168.0.235 without the rest of the URL and see if that makes a difference.

Amazing, that worked!  Thank you.  On to the next hurdle.

So far it is like finding Al Capone's vault.  Finally get in and it is empty.  The java app loads, asks for user/pswd and then displays a blank screen.  Oh well, maybe I didn't want to go there afterall.  Reason I thought I'd go see what was there is because the 40GB hard drive in it is 99% full.  Something is taking up space.

Maybe it's so full that it can't even serve the webpage.  OR, maybe you need to put your browser into compatibility mode, change browsers, or something.
