Title: EPIC email a ttachment issue?
Post by: Tom Fisher on May 04, 2020, 04:12:23 PM
I noticed in 'the other forums' there is a thread about Epic not taking drag and drop email attachments.  MS update apparently broke it and as is often the case, A$ wasn't on top of it.

Anyone know if this is legit and/or what version of Office broke it?

I don't know what broke it, but I know that two of our three terminal servers have this issue today.  I was going to have the servers rebooted tonight to see if that would fix it.  I have an open case with A$.

Well my guess is that A$ is going to tell you the work around:  drag to desktop or other folder, and attach from there.

I'm curious what version broke it because they don't seem to be so quick to fix.  Can you tell me what version the two problem servers and the one non-problem server are on with Office?

I just hear about this from Kenny.  We're not having the issue here as far as I know.  I have no updates pending, and I was able to drag out of Outlook 2016 and attach to Epic.  We're not on an O365 version of Outlook though.

I already have people working around for today.

Problem servers are automatically updated and on Version 2004 (Build 16.0.12730.20144)

The one still working has updates ready to install and is on Version 2003 (Build 1264.20466)

Both Click to Run

Heather, have you tried rolling back one of the 2004's?

The third one updated itself last night.  We're rolling back all three tonight.

I've seen some people on the other forum say they are experiencing this on Outlook 2016 (non-365) so maybe I wont be immune.  No one has complained to me yet.

It may be that another update comes quickly (maybe...ish) as there's other issues besides just the Applied one. I saw in Reddit that some people are having search issues again as well as other stuff going on. I was really under the impression microsoft was stopping functional changes in lieu of security-only fixes to keep things reliable...its obvious they haven't. (Im in a mood today lol)

Yes my search broke on mine.

I am on the latest version and my drag and drop still works though.

Another update came quickly, but didn't solve the issue.  Now we'll have to roll back two.

To be clear, it's only dragging an attachment from an email into Epic.  If you drag the whole email, or a file from anywhere else, it still works.  You are still able to drag and drop an email attachment into Epic?

Are you asking, or telling?  Because now I'm confused.  :o

BTW: This is happening in TAM 2017 with Office 2016 M$365

I was trying to clarify what the issue is for us and see if Joshua is still able to drag and drop if it's an email attachment.

Now that you clarified I cannot drag the attachment out of an email into epic.   It shows the + when I drop it on epic but does nothing.

I can drag the email with attachment and it works just fine.
I can drag from desktop and that also works fine.

I am on O365 32bit.

OK, that's the same then.  We are also on 365/2016 32 bit.

Most recent from Applied is below.  We are going to hold off on rolling back, even though we'll have to work around for now.  Of course, they have no time estimate on when the fix will come.

I do believe it is a Microsoft update that is causing your issue.  There is a PMR 388067 that has been added for this issue, and I have added your Agency to that PMR, at this time there are over a hundred agencies add to it.  It was a Microsoft update at was install on 5-4-20

Thus far the following build/versions have been reported as Problematic
Office Version 2004 build 12730.20236 CTR- 32 bit
Office 365 16.0.12730.20150 MSO
Office 365 16.0.12730.20144 MSO
Office 2016 MSO (16.0.12730.20144) 32bit
Office Home and Business 2010  14.0.7248.5000 (32-bit)

I have another thing to add to this list.

Brand new laptop (Lenovo x1c)
Brand new copy of Office home and business 2019.

Outlook wont load for the first time says it can not connect to exchange server.

I have tried every trick it must be outlook.
Password is correct laptop is on lan with server.  I have deleted profile and gone through setup again.  I have done a repair on office long and short.  I have done safe mode for outlook.

Looks like this may be fixed in Epic 2020.  We are getting 2020 next weekend here.

Late to the party, but just for FYI this is also happening on TAM inhouse.   Dragging an attachment from outlook across TAM (not even dropping it) to another email will lock up Outlook and TAM until TAM is force closed...

Our workaround is to not do that!

Did you ever figure this out?  I have the same issue.  Upgraded an old station from win 7 to 10, installed office 2013 H&B and Outlook is refusing to talk to Exchange!

No I didnt figure it out but the station finally did load and do an inital sync after days of refusing to.   It still seems to have connection issues as well.

Is the time and date set properly? All Microsoft and Lenovo updates up to date? All Office updates installed?

Some things that have really changed over the last few months years: TLS 1.2, modern auth, etc.

yes the laptop was completely up to date on all updates.

In the little Outlook icon next to the clock, you can right-click on it and select "show network connectivity changes", that may clue you in as to what's going on. Could be an autodiscovery issue, or a root cert issue as I've heard they've been an issue lately (not with Office per se).
