Title: Seeking Dell rep
Post by: Jim Jensen on April 16, 2019, 10:10:04 AM
Need to order a couple of workstations and Dell only has Office 2019 bundled. Need to rollback to 2016, for TAM Compatibility. Chatted with rep online, who told me only 2019 is available. Need a better rep.

That may be what I have to do. I ordered a station without Office. They say that Office365 should work, especially if you use the offline installer package.

Are you guys buying actual retail licenses, or using Office365?

Also you may want to look into a VAR like CDW, Connection, etc. You can buy Dell stuff through them, and before I stopped buying Dell altogether I did it that way.

Have been using OEM with the workstation. License cost is ~$200, which is 2 years of Office365. This time, however, I'm going to see if 365 will work, given the Office19 compatability issue. If that doesn't work, I'll get a retain license for Office16 or a license with Open Assurance. We don't have really have enough stations for Volume Licensing to be helpful.

I buy retail licenses.   I  try to keep them for 3-5 years.

All I can say is, how the Mighty have fallen.

Just wrapped up a chat with Dell, after a really, really dumb situation resulting from their handling of an order.   :'(

I can recall when my experiences with them were top-notch.

Yes, it seems that it is strictly "what you see if what you get" - order direct as the website offers things and that's it.

I may have posted my fun time I had with them, but my last experience with a Dell rep was so bad that I dumped them altogether. We're all Lenovo here although if I ever need servers again I may use Dell.
