Help!  I recently brought back a laptop from one of our remote offices that was not being used.  I logged onto it for the first time today and I'm having problems with the network card.  The status says "Aquiring network address".  I've tried releasing and renewing the ip address and get an error message saying it cannot renew the ip address.  I've flushed the dns and am still having the problem.  Any other ideas or suggestions?  Is it a bad nic?

Bloody Jack Kidd

have you tried more than one patch cable?

could the speed/duplex be mismatched?  - that is, set to gigabit and you're on a 100Mbit port?

Thanks, I'll take a look tomorrow.  My brain is fried today.   :P

Well guess what the problem was.  The DHCP on the firewall had run out of ip addresses to hand out.  Made a quick adjustment and it's all good now.

That exact same thing happened to me once.   We had a long power outage where the ups shut down the firewall and it reset to default number of addresses.

Thank you.  It really had me stumped for a while.  This was not the first thing that came to mind.
