Does anyone NOT enter client check numbers on deposits?
« on: April 22, 2019, 02:05:01 pm »
This agency has a history of not entering a client's check number on deposit descriptions.  I have no idea why, but I was wondering if anyone else out there did not enter client check numbers.  It's easy too look up on a transaction list when a client has a question regarding a payment.  What they've done here is describe what the check is paying, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.  The check number would be the obvious reference point to me.

Does your accounting department enter check numbers on deposits or not?

We did in TAM on the description line and Epic has a specific field for it on the receipt/deposit.  So yes, we did and do.

We keep it simple - Check # or cash. Unless it's a check from someone else, then note who.

We did, and invoice #'s in the description field when possible.  Just makes it easier down the road if a question/issue comes up.  Especially if the customer sends multiple checks in a month.  The USPS would not always deliver on a FIFO basis.

Thank you for your replies!  I am trying to get them to remember to enter the check #, but not everyone is cooperating yet.

The instance of entering a check number in the deposit description is evidently quite a foreign idea here.
