Office 2019 Not suported by Epic
« on: December 18, 2018, 04:21:10 pm »
Just an FYI Epic does not support Office 2019.  Form letters open in wordpad and not word and you cant fix it and they wont touch it via support.

For kicks I asked when it would be supported they said next major release I said that would probably be a year. OUCH.

..whats even worse is that as devs they have access to it well before the general public.  It's not like they just got their hands on it to begin work.

True.  Personally, I don't get excited about the differences between Office versions, but I do want them to focus on enhancements to Epic first and worry about Office support later - as long as "later" is reasonable.

A quick glance of their web site does not seem to proclaim "Microsoft Gold Partner" status as it used to.  That really used to steam me up.

But again as Tom said they can get advance copies and still everyone has to wait for 2019 support to come about when 2020 is released.

Honestly this is why we left.  Whether is Windows OS, Server OS, Office, about anything.  Lag WAY TO FAR behind.  Make you wait a year almost 2.   BS for a company that brags on itself and spends too much.  EPIC shows it is no different than TAM.  Wait on this or fix that next release.    We (app we use) get bug fixes/updates even enhancements once or twice a month.   Never have to worry about will this work unless it's OLD and outdated!  Applied it's new waiting to become old before we support that.

You should all wear Yellow Vests and demand more for your support dollars at the next conference.   :o 8)

True.  Compatibility and waiting is frustrating.  Support also doesn't always know when things are supported until they are supported, so asking support when Office 2019 will work might not actually get you a real answer.  I've heard "next release" meaning the next MU and also just being thrown out there for any such question.

I'm not sticking up for them - an Office version change should not break any dang thing as long as WINWORD.exe is still WINWORD.exe and can be found by the calling application, then it should work in my opinion.

I'd still rather them put my support dollars towards things like full HTML email support, merging clients, better CRM type marketing capabilities.  I get no benefit from a new Office version at all.  For them to put that ahead of enhancements would feel like support dollars wasted.

So it could also be a mistake to enable "preview" in Word, which allows future enhancements to be enable in your installed version. I looked at recently on my laptop and they were messing with the ribbon. I have an O365 version of Office on my laptop and small enhanacements get pushed into it regularly. For example, my menu fonts all changed recently in Outlook.

The Official Applied compatibility matrix shows that Epic 2019 is compatible (though not 'certified') with Office 2019.
