Jeff G....exactly my feelings about it being 13 yrs old!  Personally I would not swap out "brains" - I would purchase new technology...but that's just me - even if I had to finance it.  I am just not a fan of swapping out older for less older!

Thanks for the info....looks like I can get a UPS for a reasonable price that will work.

Depending on how many users you have, something like a RingCentral, Vonage, etc may be a better option, and chances are other than maybe a 2 or 3 year contract (or 1 if you truely want to vet) a hosted option could be an option.

A second option could be to buy some generic sip phones (which are REALLY nice now) and fire up a FreePBX box.

Owner just isn't interested in going any further than what he is doing right now.  Eventually he will have to do something else...but by then I will probably be retired!  I have laid out what I thought was WHY moving forward on newer system was money better spent but ....not what he wants.

Well case in point, we pay X amount of dollars now for Fiber Connectivity, SIP trunking, and maintenance on the phone system. Even if we weren't paying maintenance, we still pay SOMETHING for that thing to exist, including the electricity it runs on.

Take that existing budget and compare it to a hosted platform and there may not be any capex, short of maybe buying some phones. Thats why I also said depends on how many phones you have...here we have over 100 because we have phones coming out our noses, but I can prob remove 20-30 of them and no one would ever notice.

We do have UPS on the server and one workstation.... certainly willing to try it on the phone system.  Just wasn't sure if the phone system would respond the same as other pieces of equipment.  Thanks Ric.

You're welcome Jan,

Since our VoIP phone system take relatively little power including the PoE switch and phone terminals we've been able to take phone calls for over an hour using the UPS.

Good luck!
