I have one user w/Office 2010 that's having some strange issues w/his outbox. Today between 12-1 the items in his outbox did not send (we have a pop email account). Items before and after did, and moved to his sent items folder. He states he did not close out of Outlook since then. When I looked at his outbox, the items weren't italicized the way they normally are if they haven't sent yet.  When you go into one of the messages, it states sent, but it definitely didn't ( it's not in the sent folder and the recipients don't have them. There is no option to click the send button.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what's going on?
Thanks!

double-check email addresses, close Outlook, try again, hit send/receive?

I've seen this before, but it's been many years and many versions of Outlook since I've used a POP account..

Hit send/receive does nothing. You can close out of outlook and do not get the message that "you have items in your outbox". It's like it thinks they send and they didn't.
Yes, we use POP and it normally works just fine.  Any other thoughts?
Thank you so much.

See if you can drap and drop the offending items to the drafts folder.  Then open and see if it will let you send?

I remember a while ago that having the Windows firewall turned on often delays outbound emails.  Are you required to have that turned on? But the confusing part is that they are not italisized.  Very odd.

Is Mapi broken or corrupted?  Have you tried a repair using the MS Office disk?  Cleared the temp files?  Strange as it sounds, Outlook does use components of Internet Explorer which is why I mention the temp files.  Not sure it the "connections" settings in Internet Explorer has anything to do with Outlook or not, but there use to be some shared components of IE in Windows which caused Microsoft to get sued.  I don't know if they really ever did separate out the elements or not.

I have this happen on occasion - usually my emails sent directly from TAM are a bit abnormal in Outlook. Usually when I find it, I have to forward them (and simply delete the FW info), then it goes fine.

Thank you for the suggestions. I can move the items into another folder, but the Send button never reappears. I will try to run a repair on it the next time he is out and will post again if I get any more information.
Thank you.
