Because of our new shipment of Windows 7/64 workstations, I need to stay after tonight and upgrade TAM from 10.5 to 11.x plus maintenance release.

I'm not expecting much, just launch and wait..  Run update on each workstations, terminal server..  At least the last few I've done were pretty dull which is good.

Is there anything special I should know or be away of or is this another painless install.  Don't care so much about bugs as the installation experience.  No special utils to run are there?  I've downloaded 11.x and maintenance update.   Do I need to install both (betting yes) or will the maintenance update also include 11.x saving me more time?

TIA!
Bob

11.1 is supposed to be out today. It's not there yet, but is imminent. A told just informed me today - possibly posted tonight since it isn't there yet. It should include the maintenance fixes in the hotfix plus it's supposed to fix a couple of items that I've found:

1. Print window in commercial change requests don't dock to the windows task bar and can be hidden and difficult to recover
2. Another change request issue for which I can't recall the exact details (real helpful, eh?)

Thanks Jim!  Did some investigating after I posted.  Looks like the preconfig work is standard, backup, scan for shifted records, pack and reindex.   All standard stuff.

Main thing is the change in client setup.  Running ASupdate.exe /rr is now replaced with TAMCLIENT /RR in setting up the workstation.  I did not read anything saying support for W7/64 just W7/32.   I think it will in that 32bit apps work just not 16 and with tam 11.x tamhost has been removed.  Technically it should work fine.

I think the update 11.1 is combo of 11.0 and maintenance update.  One step update vs. two step.  I'm stuck with the later at moment..  Only in that I need fix now.  :)

Jim - do you know if the problems in accounting were fixed in 11.1?  That's the main thing of which I'm aware that is keeping us on 10.8

(I never have trusted the x.0 release from Applied).

Jim Jensen

Bob, the upgrade is easy and not terribly long. Remember to upgrade Transfer Manager, too. You'll want to verify that the TAM shortcuts get updated to tamclient.exe. Some get updated by the process, but some, like a desktop icon, don't.

Lance, the accounting issues haven't been a problem for me since we simply record DB commissions in the GL. I thought those were fixed by the maintenance release, though.

Lance, which accounting problems would you be reffering to?

Not Lance and he may have noted the details more precisely, but it has to do with direct bill commissions and paying producers.

another fix that's supposed to be in 11.1 that's bugged me for a long time - when printing a change request, if you update the application, the history description defaults into the change request activity, but it's going to the wrong field. 11.1 is supposed to put it back to the "add note" field (the main area of the activity).

Tech in today's chat told me that it was to be released 12/2 and thought it was out there. Still not there though. I wonder if they realized it's not there...attention Andy - I know it's not your area of expertise, but you check with someone that does know?

I agree, the accounting issue with DB was fixed in the maintenance update.

Version 11.1 is quite a bit more than just 11.0 and the maintenance update.

George, can you give any info on the "quite a bit more" for 11.1?  I guess I need to look at the specs for machines also.  This company has the independent producers providing their own workstations, resulting in a multitude of types of PCs - aaghh!

I would think the release notes should be on the site any time. I got an advance copy because we are in our long, long process of migrating to EPIC and we have to upgrade to 11.1 very soon to be able to run a utility (cleanup forms) that supposedly doesn't work correctly in 11.0   Not sure I should share anything until Applied has released the notes, but it is a 24 page document.

Here's the better description on the accouting issue that came up in 11.0 and is fixed in the 11.0 Maintenance Update:

The MU addresses some critical issues identified since General Release. Most notably, this update fixes an issue with Fully-Paid producer commission amounts, which was outlined in a Technical Bulletin sent out on September 27th.

Facts Express didn't mention 11.1 release, so it must been delayed from the release date given to the front-line techs.

11.1 is now posted. The Release Notes are missing at the present, though.
