I'm curious - anyone have a good suggestion for an open source project management app, more geared towards home/personal/life projects rather than business-related ones, or something that could kinda do both?

Basically I want something that I can detail a project - and rather than say track the time that project has taken or requires, but basically just track the details of it, and resources needed like parts, tools, etc.

For example, like I want to replace the back bumper on my Buick...this might be something like

Project: Replace rear bumper on Buick
Parts required: New black bumper, equally black bumperettes, new rub strip.
Steps: Remove old bumper, install new bumper, install bumperettes, install rub strip.

I'd like the ability to track what step I'm at - and what resources (bumper, bumperettes, rub strip) I need for each project, and better yet if the app could show a list of resources needed for all projects. That way, I can bulk order parts from a single vendor that may cover multiple items.

BTW I would even go so far to say I would consider a cloud app, since this is something that would be accessed at a bunch of different places including possibly my phone.

Read about Todoist and it might be an option but I've seen comments that it's heavily due-date driven - not all (in fact just about most) of my projects don't have due dates, its just a way for me to list projects on paper to start doing something about them, or write them off and move on.

I've seen a bunch of simple joomla extensions that should do this in the cloud for you, but otherwise, have you searched sourceforge already?

I started poking around, and now I'm trying out Todoist. So far I'm not crazy about it for 2 reasons but otherwise having a place where I can jump in and add/organize lists seems to be working, at least on paper.

The two things I have against it are that organizing the hierarchy of projects and tasks could be a bit easier (seems to be a lot of clicks/steps to do something that really should be one), and the fact that while it does have a mobile version, the native site doesn't play well with iphone/ipad.

The due date thing wasn't really an issue at all - you can create things without due dates...but now that I've made some lists and organized some things...I think I might start using them - we'll see.
