Unread messages

How come the icon is showing unread messages in Board Members Q&A and Imaging.Scanning but when I click on the icon there aren't any unread messages?

I use Firefox here, and if I hit the back button to go to a higher level, the forum still shows unread messages.   I have to click on a higher level in the directory tree in the upper left to go back to a higher level.   That way I can tell which places have true unread messages.   The unread message flag also goes away if I hit refresh or reload.

I'm using IE 7 but it is showing new posts in places where there aren't and no new posts in places where there are.
